The Samoa Tsunami 2009 Appeal Charitable Trust is established under the leadership of Samoa’s Consul General in Auckland, Afioga Faolotoi Reupena Pogi in partnership with key Samoan community leaders, Samoan organisations, central and local government agencies, the private sector and civil society throughout New Zealand.
Objective: To facilitate and organise efficiently and effectively the relief efforts of the Samoan and wider community of New Zealand for the Tsunami victims of Samoa
Purpose: To ensure a well coordinated approach and efficient use of resources,time and expertise to ensure that the individuals and communities most in need receive the optimal assistance possible.
Samoa Tsunami 2009 Appeal Committee: A full time co-ordinating team and staff has been deployed operating from the Samoa House to coordinate and managed the relief efforts and working closely with the Samoan (Disaster Relief Council)and New Zealand governments respectively.
A number of “working groups” have been established focusing on the following:
- Fundraising including monetary donations, events, concerts and sporting fixtures
- Transportation and movement of goods and supplies
- Memorial services ( Church Ministers committee )
- Communications

There are two ways of donating money to the Samoa Tsunami 2009 Appeal:
(a) If you ring the 0900 number (0900 75633), and follow the steps, a $20 donation will be added to your next monthly phone bill. Your $20 donation will go directly to the Samoa Tsunami 2009 Appeal and this amount will appear on your next phone bill. (Please seek permission from the person who owns the telephone account).
(b) If you wish to donate a different amount or prefer to go through a bank, you are welcome to use the following:
